Leonine stay on target


Last year's runners-up Leonine Chess Club maintained their supremacy in the Dutch-Bangla First Division Chess League when they blanked Star Vision 4-0 yesterday at the federation hall room.

After the seventh round games, the star-studded Leonine topped the table with 26 points as Grand Master Dao Thein Hai beat Hafizul Islam Chapal, GM Luldashev Saidali beat Protul Chandra Bose, GM Nguyen Anh Dung beat Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan and local GM Niaz Murshed beat Nazrul Islam Delu.

Newcomers Muktijoddah Sang-sad's impressive run continued as they followed the leaders from two points adrift while holders Bangladesh Biman were third with 23 points.

Muktijoddha beat Mohakhali Pradip Sangha 4-0 but Biman spoiled a chance to topple the second-placed side when they managed to pull off a 2.5-1.5 win over Titas Club. GM Ziaur Rahman and IM Reefat Bin Sattar won their matches but IM Abdullah Al Rakib shared point with Monir Hossain and Imran Ali Elin lost to Ruhul Kabir Shiplu of Titas.

In other matches, Narayanganj City Chess Club beat Bangladesh Ansar 2.5-1.5, Destiny 2000 beat BMU Sangsad 4-0, Friends Chess Power beat Anushilon 3-1, Sonali Bank beat Rajshahi Daba Unnayan Sangastha 3.5-1.5 and Farashganj drew with Dhaka University 2-2.
