Kamal demands end to killing in 'crossfire'

Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain demanded stoppage of killing people in so called crossfire by forces in uniform including Rab, Kobra and Cheetah, a party press release said. He was speaking as chief guest at the extended meeting of the Jatiya Oikkya Moncha in Women's Voluntary Association (WVA) auditorium at Dhanmondi yesterday. Terming the killings unlawful, Dr Kamal alleged that the elite forces were committing such acts as per government directives. He warned of bringing those who are giving the directives into justice through united movement of the people. Dr Kamal said terrorism continued throughout the country in the auspices of the government. The government was yet to find out the sources of arms recovered from various areas and identify people responsible for bomb explosions in different places, he said. He stressed the need of unity among the democratic forces for building up a progressive Bangladesh through implementing rule of law, and resisting corruption and communalism. Advocate Zahirul Islam, Saifuddin Ahmed Manik, Abdur Rouf, Pankaj Bhattacharya, Mostafa Mohsin Monto, Mofizul Islam, and Saiful Islam also spoke on the occasion.
