Hartal in Ctg reduced to 8hrs today

Chittagong city unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of mainstream opposition Awami League (AL) reduced today's previously announced twelve-hour hartal in the port city to eight hours.

The hartal earlier announced to be a dawn-to-dusk one will now be observed for eight hours from 6am to ease some other programmes taken up by AL to form its countrywide mass no-confidence wall and facilitate the people intended to attend Bishwa Ejtema in Tongi, party sources said.

BCL city unit announced the hartal at a press conference held at Chittagong Press Club on Monday following the death of Mohim, BCL central assistant library secretary and former VP of MES College Students' Union, in the early hours that day.

Mohim was killed in a 'crossfire' between Rab and a criminal group early Monday after his arrest by the elite force the day before.
