Ctg AL leader, 28 others sued for assault on police

A police constable yesterday sued Chittagong City Awami League Organising Secretary Afsarul Amin and 28 others for assaulting and obstructing him from carrying out his duty on Monday.Constable Ashrafur Rahman of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station early hours yesterday. The plaintiff said the AL leader and the other defendants assaulted him physically while he was filming movements of people on O R Nizam Road in and around the house of Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL) leader Mohim Uddin, who died in Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) custody Monday. He further alleged that the accused took away his video camera and broke it apart before assaulting him. Police held 11 people including BCL activists and Mohim's relatives on Monday night, shown them arrested in the police assault case and sent to jail yesterday.
