Work to meet people's aspirations
PM urges field level officials

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday called on the field level government officials to work sincerely to fulfil people's aspirations."Expectations of the people are much from the new generation civil servants… they will have to prepare themselves accordingly," she told the inaugural function of a new building of Regional Public Administration Training Center of Dhaka Region at New Eskaton in the city. The five-storied building, which cost Tk 4.78 crore, will provide facilities for imparting training to officials and employees of the government, semi-government, autonomous bodies and private institutions. Currently, there are four regional public administration training centres -- at Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong and Khulna. Education Minister M Osman Farruk, who is also chairman of the governing board of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC), also spoke. Khaleda said establishment of good governance is one of the major commitments of her government and they have started work to this end after assuming power this time. "We're working for establishing transparency and accountability in administration, and democratic values in all spheres," she said. Ministers, diplomats, representatives of donor organizations, and high government officials attended the function. She said law has been modified and the administration made more pro-people. She said her government has taken an epoch-making project to upgrade skill and qualifications of the civil servants to face the challenges of the 21st century. Under this project, she said, nearly 2,000 BCS officers of all levels would receive training and higher education at home and abroad aimed at creating highly educated and meritorious civil servants.
