'Recruitment made with bribe'

Allegations of gross irregularity in appointment of people in 25 posts of third and fourth class employees in Satkhira health department have been reported. Local BNP brought out a procession in the town and laid a siege to the Civil Surgeon's office yesterday protesting the irregularities and demanding cancellation of the appointments. Allegations have it that the appointments were given hurriedly by taking bribe and those appointed were asked to join immediately. According to sources, about 1100 people had applied for 10 posts of MLSS, 163 for four posts of ward boy, 50 for four posts of night guard, 49 for four posts of sweeper, 28 for two posts of office assistant and 12 for one post of cook. Written tests and interview of the applicants were held from October 24 to October 30. The appointment letters were issued hurriedly on Monday and those appointed were asked to join immediately, two of the job seekers-- Shahidul Islam and Sukmar Mondal--alleged at a press conference at Satkhira Reporters Club yesterday. They also alleged that the Health Department officials took huge amounts of bribe for the appointments. They said a written complaint have been sent to the Health Minister for taking action against the officials who did the irregularities and cancellation of the appointments. Meanwhile, the Civil Surgeon gas gone on three days leave and left Satkhira, sources said.
