Information given by Kala Mahbub has lent a new dimension to the investigation of the sensational abduction case as the family members of Jamal earlier claimed that he (Jamal) was still alive and the abductors were holding him hostage.

Mahbub, a close aide of Kasem chairman of Fatikchhari, the prime accused in the Jamal Uddin abduction case, was arrested at Kanchannagar of Fatikchhari on Monday night.

During interrogation Mahbub disclosed that Jamal had been killed but he declined to give details, Rab officials said yesterday.

The Rab handed over Mahbub, allegedly involved in the abduction on July 24 last year, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police, now probing the abduction case, for further interrogation, Rab sources said.

Nazma Begum, wife of Jamal Uddin, yesterday told The Daily Star that Kasem chairman and Mahbub were involved in the abduction. "He (Mahbub) can tell the whereabouts of my husband….I believe he knows everything."

CID investigation officer Anwar Hossain also said he has got enough information about the involvement of Kala Mahbub in the abduction of Jamal.

Kasem chairman of Fatikchhari and another accused Shahid chairman of Anwara upazila went into hiding after the abduction. The Osman Bahini chief has also been on the run since the Rab started raiding his dens in Fatikchhari.
