Cable network

In a couple of months Bangladesh will be connected with the Sea-Me-We 4 submarine cable network at a cost of US$110 million, while other members of the consortium are only paying US$40 million. Not only Bangladesh government allocated extra US$70 million for the SMW4 submarine cable project, it is also delaying the fibre optic link project from Cox's Bazar to Chittagong. It is alleged that due to some "anomaly" in tender, the dry segment of the cable project is delayed. If BTTB fails to energise the SMW4 cable through a power plant from their own cable station in due time, Bangladesh has to pay a huge penalty to SMW4 consortium. Are you still wondering how in the world Bangladesh became the most corrupt nation for the fourth time? So, our friends in ICT industry must speak up! Ask BTTB about the extra US$70 million that they are spending and how will they give connectivity to the ICT industry in Dhaka? We may just have to pack our beach balls and laptops to visit Cox's Bazar to use the US$110 million broadband link!
