Barisal region launch workers threaten strike from Nov 5

Passenger Water Transport Workers Association threatened to go on strike on 28 routes in Barisal region from November 5 demanding implementation of the agreement regarding pay scale. The decision was announced after an emergency meeting held in Barisal on Friday. Golam Mawla, president of the Launch Workers Association, presided over the meeting. Golam Mawla said that the strike scheduled to begin on October 12 was postponed on October 11 after the assurance from the Launch Owners Association of the implementation of the pay scale within 10 days. A tri-partite agreement was signed among the workers, owners and government on the pay scale on May 22. A gazette notification was also published in this regard on June 3.
