This was decided at a meeting yesterday with Vice-chancellor Prof SMA Faiz in the chair.

The meeting was attended by all deans, department chairpersons, hall provosts, institute directors and officials of the university.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohammad will be the convocation speaker.

The university authorities have decided to give him an honorary Doctorate Degree.

A total of 27,324 graduates and research students will be conferred degree by the Chancellor of the university and President Iajuddin Ahmed.

Of them, 9663 are graduates, 9450 are postgraduates and 8211 M.Phil., Ph.D. and others from different affiliated colleges.

The last date of registration for the convocation is November 30. The registration fee for graduates has been fixed at Tk 500 and for postgraduates and M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree holders at Tk 1000.

The VC told The Daily Star that the convocation would create a festive mood on the campus and enthusiasm among the students.

A cultural programme might follow the convocation the next day at the central sports ground, he added.

Treasurer Prof Syed Rashidul Hasan told The Daily Star that the convocation might be held on December 19 or 20.

Tk 30 lakh has been allocated for the convocation, and if more money is needed, the University Grants Commission would provide it, he added.
