Club Cup Hockey
MSC down Usha

Defending champions Mohamme-dan Sporting Club became unbeaten Group A champions in the Club Cup hockey tournament when they inflicted a 4-2 defeat on Usha Krira Chakra at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium yesterday.

Both top sides had confirmed their semifinal berths before the game and their opponents in the semifinals will be decided after today's Group B match between Abahani and Mariner Youngs Club.

The Black and Whites dominated an entertaining first half cruising to a 3-1 lead.

Young striker Zahidul Islam Rajan delighted the Motijheel outfit with twin strikes, brilliantly sweeping in a right-side cross after eight minutes and netting a penalty-corner in the 23rd minute.

Mazharul Islam reduced the margin through a penalty-corner for Usha but Mohammedan's Pakistani forward Mohammed Asim extended the lead seven minutes before the breather. He dodged the on-rushing goalkeeper Tushar to sound the board after chasing a long ball from the midfield by his compatriot Ali Raza.

Tabib-e-Noor brought Usha back into contention when he capitalised on a another penalty-corner in the 61st minute but Mamunur Rahman Chayan sealed victory for the holders eight minutes later converting a penalty corner.
