AL demands removal of controversial HC judges

Awami League (AL) yesterday demanded a purge of the "inefficient, dishonest and controversial additional judges" of the High Court who it alleged were appointed merely on political considerations.

A resolution adopted at an emergency meeting of the AL presidium members, joint secretaries and organising secretaries held at its Dhanmondi office said they must be removed for keeping the judicial system in order.

The meeting resolved that the image of the judiciary "has been shattered" following the removal of a judge for taking bribe and a judge sitting at the bench with fake law-graduation certificate.

Chaired by Acting AL president Zillur Rahman, the meeting expressed its solidarity with the just demands of the lawyers for keeping the sanctity of the judiciary and its independence as well as establishment of rule of law in the country.
