Vulnerability of Muslims
Binu, Gulshan, Dhaka
At least 84 Thai Muslims died on 26 October due to inhuman activities of the police administration in Thailand. They died of suffocation in the back of overloaded trucks. But the prime minister of Thailand seemed to have accepted the ridiculous explanation that the "protesters were weak because of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan". There is no doubt that the Muslims were killed by the police. Muslims are in a vulnerable position in the present world. I am surprised that no Muslim country sent a protest note to the Thai premier after such a gruesome incident. ***The deaths of 84 Thai people are a matter of great shock and concern. But the way the DS highlighted the matter in the editorial "Terrible deaths in Thai custody" was also sectarian. If the people who have lost their precious lives were not Muslims, wouldn't the DS run the said editorial? Most of the problems we are facing in this world today are because we are dividing people in the name of religion. The DS being a progressive newspaper should not see the massacre in Thailand from a religious point of view only. MK Barua, New Delhi
