CFJ courses on journalism for 2005
Two certificate courses and 15 graduate courses on new and emerging fields in journalism will be offered by the Konrad Adenauer Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University (CFJ) in 2005, says a press release.CFJ's programme for 2005 was finalised at a meeting of its executive board last week. Two of the three members of the advisory board Atmakusumah Astraatmadja, 2000 Ramon Magsaysay journalism awardee from Indonesia, and Dato' Ng Poh Tip, group editorial and education advisor of the Star Publications in Malaysia met to review CFJ's performance and deliberate on its programmes and directions. The third member of the advisory board is Isagani Yambot, Philippine Daily Inquirer publisher. A five-month certificate programme in broadcast journalism and another in online journalism will be the new offerings in CFJ's 2005 programme. Two online and one on-campus courses comprise the curriculum of the Certificate in Broadcast Journalism. The courses are Writing for Broadcast (Feb 7 to Mar 21), Radio and TV Production (on-campus May 23-28), and Issues in Broadcast Journalism (Jul 4 to Aug 15). For the Certificate in Online Journalism, the courses are Computer-Assisted Reporting (Feb 7 to Mar 21), Reporting about Information Technology (May 16 to Jun 27), and Online Journalism (Sept 12 to Oct 24). The courses are designed primarily for working journalists. Other media professionals are accepted on a case-to-case basis. CFJ, a joint project of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the Ateneo, was founded in June 2000 to promote good journalism in Asia and the Pacific Islands. It carries out its mandate by providing training opportunities to journalists, teachers of journalism and other media professionals. CFJ training programmes include certificate courses and a degree programme leading to the Master of Arts in Journalism.
