Around 2000 fishermen from Gujarat have been reported missing from Jakhau sea area of Kutch district during the recent cyclone in the Arabian sea, a fishermen's association claimed yesterday."Several boats carrying fishermen have not reached back to their base. The Coast Guard has to intensify its search operation and press in more boats," Veljibhai Masani, President of Indian Fishermen's Association said in Vadodara. Masani has informed Coast Guard authorities and has also contacted his counterpart in Pakistan to be on a watch out in case any Indian fisherman is arrested by Pakistani Navy or Coast Guard officials. However, a senior official of the state fisheries department said they had received information of only 200 boats and 1000-odd fishermen not reaching their bases. The official did not confirm if the fishermen were reported lost in sea as claimed by the association.
