Cultural correspondent
Md Fokhrul Islam, well-known in Dhaka for his superb prints, is now holding his solo exhibition in Italy. His prints, which have been exhibited at the Bangladesh National Museum and Alliance Francaise, and which have won acclaim from connoisseurs and art-lovers both at home and overseas, should be a superb success overseas too. Fokhrul is noted for his chrome yellow and black bold splashes, which he works on paper with mustard oil and water, and bear circular images and motifs, which appeal to most viewers. Fokhrul, who has a BFA in Ceramics from the Fine Arts Institute, DU, has taken part in local print-making workshops run by Susan Benton from USA, H Gercke from Germany and Professor Mahmudul Haque of Bangladesh in the mid 90s. His works have been exhibited in China, Japan, Iran, India and Bangladesh. He won a Gallery Goho award from Japan, and is now a free-lance artist.
