Hosted and directed by reciter Progna Laboni, the programme started with the recitation of three poems-- Manusher Golpo, Kobi Jakhan Premik and Bari Khoja--of Ruby Rahman. Rupa Chakraborti, with artistic voice modulation, recited the poems.

Author Rizia Rahman focused on the characteristics of Ruby's poems along with the description of Ruby as a person and a poet. With a brief discussion on the history of the 1700-year old Bangla poetry, Rizia Rahman specified that every 50 years Bangla poems took a noticeable turn in their structure, subject and style.

Special guest poet-novelist Syed Shamsul Haque appreciated Anannya's endeavour to recognise the value of talented women. He said,'In the present non-cooperative environment of our society, it is important to uphold the true contribution of women.

'

An overwhelmed Ruby Rahman thanked the periodical for honouring her with the prestigious award. She emphasised on the need for recognition of women's talent in their respective fields in a hostile social situation.

Chief Guest poet Shamsur Rahman said. 'Recognition prompts further noteworthy contributions in the creative field. However, the truly creative people never work for awards or recognition.'

The chairperson of the programme and editor of the periodical Anannya, Tasmima Hossain asserted that they are offering this award for poets for the first time. She also said, 'To prompt the advancement of work in such a male-dominated society, Anannya is creating a platform for the creative women.'

Ruby Rahman is among the celebrated poets of the 1960s. She has searched for novelty in poems and represented the voice of her time but she never compromised with the quality of her art. She studied English and Bangla literature simultaneously. Recently she has retired as a professor of literature and has taken journalism as her profession.

Among Ruby's books Je Jibon Phosinger and Bhalobashar Kobita are noteworthy.

The programme ended with solo recitals by Sadi Mohammad and Papya Sarwar.
