The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) finally launches the first ever women's football tournament in the country today after an abortive attempt earlier this year due to fundamentalists' threats.The BFF, under pressure from the world governing body of the sport FIFA to promote women's football, began its training programme a couple of months back as preparation for this tournament. State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman will declare the eight-team event open at 4 pm at the Shaheed Mostafa Stadium in Kamlapur. Asian Football Confederation's director of national associations Brendon Menton is expected to be present as the special guest. The teams, splitting into two groups, will play in the first round from where top two finishers from each group will advance into the semifinals. Dhaka will take on VDP in the opening match. GROUP A: Dhaka, VDP, Khagrachari and Jessore Education Board. GROUP B: Bangladesh Ansar, Chittagong Division, Khulna and Narayanganj.
