Family members said Quamruzzaman was missing since Saturday evening after two youths, identifying themselves as his friends, called him out of their house at Palash Bagh in Badda. The victim's father Shamsul Islam suspects a local gang might have slaughtered his son for helping police to arrest one of its members a few days ago. In another incident in Lalmatia, muggers stabbed dead Mrinalkanti Chowdhury, 28, a small trader, as he attempted to resist them, and looted Tk 1.72 lakh. The snatchers asked him to hand over the bag containing the money. But Mrinalkanti refused and clasped it to his bosom. The robbers then stabbed him in the abdomen and chest and ran away with the money. Mrinalkanti died on the spot. Locals rushed him to the DMCH where doctors confirmed his death. His brother Sudam Kumar Saha filed a case with Mohammadpur Police Station, but police failed to arrest anyone until filing of this report at 12:30am today. In the third incident, Muktar, 25, a suspected mugger, admitted to the DMCH with injuries from a mob lynching, died in the early hours yesterday. Police said a crowd of angry people caught and beat him black and blue Saturday noon after he allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman at Dania in Demra. In the last crime at Adabor in Mohammadpur, extortionists stormed Abinash Printing Press and shot its general manager (GM), Islam Alam, 40, and a staff, Farid Ahmed, 25, at around 12:30pm as the GM refused to pay them tolls. "We were five people inside the GM's room when the miscreants entered and asked us not to move. As I tried to run away they shot me in the chest and moments later shot in Alam's right leg," said Farid, who is now undergoing treatment at the DMCH. Alam was admitted to Orthopaedic Hospital.
