Stamford private varsity soccer champs

Stamford University lifted the first-ever Stamford Inter-Private University Football tournament title beating Asian University 3-2 in the tiebreaker at the Army Stadium yesterday.

In front of a colourful crowd, both universities failed to break the deadlock in normal so the game went into a shootout.

Ruhul Azad, Atiqur Rahman and Ramiz Jahan converted their spotkicks for Stamford while Manjoor Ahmed and Moon Kayes were successful for the losers.

Stamford's Atiqur Rahman was later adjudged man-of-the-match while his teammate Saifullah Arafat collected the player of the tournament prize.

Masud Khan Johnny of Asian University scored highest eight goals while Northern University was adjudged the most disciplined team to receive the "fair play trophy".

State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman distributed the prizes.
