Political requiem
Anon,Dhaka
Unannounced, our ferocious politics, based on terrorism, drowned in twelve inches of rain in three days in metro Dhaka. The JS (parliament) is trying resuscitation efforts; but giants cannot be revived in a one-week session. The debate continues for more than 30 years. Some refer to the feminine mystique of the rulers. But this is also a taboo issue. Hence let us fall back on some historical background on the two major political parties (AL and BNP), which grew from strength to strength on the basis of charisma based on the (unfortunate) political assassinations. The instability has been continuing since 1975. The strife is based on personality clash: one, the call for freedom; and the other, the declaration of independence. There are many shades of claims and opinions defying amicable solution by the contestants. The people wait and suffer. Politics is stumbling and falling apart. The birth of nation is an occasion for joy and celebration. There should be no room for controversy. But politics is a crafty taskmaster; keeps the pot boiling. Further comment?
