Aus-India Tests on Sony TV

India's home Test series against Australia in October will be telecast on Sony television, with live pictures to be produced by the Dubai-based TEN Sports, the Indian cricket board said on Thursday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Ranbir Mahendra said in a statement BCCI would itself produce and distribute the television feed for the four-Test series that starts next week.

The telecast has been mired in controversy after the country's largest listed media firm, Zee Telefilms Ltd., moved the courts following the board's decision to cancel the multi-million dollar telecast rights awarded to it.

"On the basis of the recommendation of the marketing committee, the general body has decided the board would itself produce and distribute the feed and sell the telecast of the four Test matches on a revenue-sharing basis," Mahendra said in a statement.

"While TEN Sports would produce the feed, Sony Entertainment Television would telecast, distribute and market the telecast."

But the BCCI said it will abide by any ruling of the Supreme Court, which is hearing a petition by Zee against the cancellation of its 308-million-dollar, four-year contract. The court has set more hearings for Tuesday.

The Australian board has threatened to reconsider the tour if the Tests were not broadcast while the International Cricket Council (ICC) said television pictures were needed for close umpiring decisions if the Tests were to go ahead.

India open their home season with a four-Test series against Australia, starting at Bangalore on October 6. The series will be followed by two Test matches against South Africa and a one-dayer against Pakistan.

The telecast of these matches would be done under the same arrangement, Mahendra said.
