Preview: Premiership
Spotlight on one man

Arsenal may sit top of the Premiership and a comfortable seven points clear of their arch rivals Manchester United but there is no doubting where the momentum lies going into this weekend's fixtures.

Wayne Rooney's astonishing hat-trick on his United debut in the Champions League romp against Fenerbahce has left the whole world waiting to see what he will do for an encore when injury-hit Middlesbrough visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

Most of Norway wanted to see Arsenal in action against Rosenborg on Wednesday.

But those fans fortunate enough to have secured a ticket would not have counted themselves so lucky at the end of a match in which Arsene Wenger's side produced some of their sloppiest football in a long time.

Charlton are the visitors to Highbury on Saturday and, on the evidence of Wednesday night's 1-1 draw, the champions' record-breaking unbeaten run in the league could be ripe for interruption.

If Charlton can pull off a shock win on Saturday, it would hand Chelsea the chance to leapfrog them at the top when they host Liverpool on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho's side's confidence has been bolstered by their midweek win over their manager's old club, FC Porto, while Liverpool suffered a Champions League defeat away to Olympiakos.

The defeat was symptomatic of how Liverpool, increasingly impressive at home, have struggled to impose themselves in away matches

After seven matches, none of the three teams promoted last season have yet to register a win in the top flight but Norwich will fancy their chances of breaking that particular jinx when they entertain Portsmouth at Carrow Road on Saturday.
