Indefinite strike at Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill in Khulna

Production in the state-owned Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill at Khalishpur has been suspended since Thursday morning as the CBA leaders called an indefinite strike to press home their demand for payment of wages and salary to nearly 5,000 workers.

Sources said the management of the BJMC-run jute mill needs over Tk 3 crore and 50 lakh to make payment against the arrears.

"We are unable to pay due to severe financial crisis," said the deputy general manager. The mill is now a losing concern, he added.

But the workers blamed the CBA leaders and a section of mill officials for creating the financial crisis.
