Police and witnesses said a gang of five swooped on Delwar Hossain, former leader of Jubo Dal Gacha Union unit, near his home at village Targacha under Gazipur Sadar Police Station at about 9:30pm and shot him point blank. Delwar died on the spot.

Police arrested a youth with a revolver in connection with the killing. The identity of the youth could not be known immediately.

After the killing, angry people put up a barricade on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Gacha, disrupting traffic for an hour. Police have been deployed in the area
