Nab attackers or face all-out movement: Oikyamancha

Jatiya Oikyamancha will go for an oust-government movement if the BNP-led coalition fails to solve the August 21 grenade blasts that killed 19 people and injured over 200 at an Awami League (AL) rally.

At the 10th convening committee meeting, Oikyamancha decided that it will launch the campaign for ouster of the government singly or in conjunction with those who stand opposed to terrorism, corruption and communalism, said the meeting sources.

Members participated in the meeting observed as the four-party alliance government has 'totally failed to rule the country', a change of power must take place. They, however, stated unequivocally that it will have to be in a democratic and constitutional way.

Presided over by Oikyamancha President Dr Kamal Hossain, the meeting was attended by Oikyamancha Member Secretary Commander (Rtd) Abdur Rouf, Members Saifuddin Ahmed Manik, Pankaj Bhattacharya, Barrister Rabeya Bhuiyan, Engineer Abul Kashem, Advocate Zahirul Haq and Khandaker Shamsul Alam Dudu.

Talking to The Daily Star after the meeting, Dr Kamal said an effective national unity is a must to overcome the insecurity that has pervaded the entire nation in the aftermath of the August 21 grenade blasts.

Referring to the presence of Interpol and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) personnel, the Oikyamancha president said they had urged this earlier and do still hold that international experts should be brought in if need be.

He, however, said the government should have considered opinions of all prior to seeking international help. He stressed the importance of transparency in different state organs with regard to the investigation.

Yesterday's meeting was held at Dr Kamal's residence. Oikyamancha leaders will meet again today, this time at Oikyamancha office in the city.
