Cairns ready for Aussies

New Zealand veteran Chris Cairns believes his team has a great chance of lifting the ICC Champions Trophy -- if they can get past Australia first.

Australia and New Zealand are paired in Pool A along with USA and whoever wins the big match will advance to the semifinals.

Cairns told BBC Sport: "New Zealand can win the Trophy most definitely.

"We have played in England this summer and won the NatWest Series so we have the knowledge of that."

New Zealand play USA on the first day of the tournament on September 10 and then take on Australia at The Oval six days later.

The Kiwis lifted the Trophy in 2000 but World Cup holders Australia have never won the title.

Cairns, who was man-of-the-match in the 2000 final, said: "The great thing with one-off games is that it's just on the day.

"Australia are a good side and under Ricky Ponting they have paved quite a formidable record over the last few years and they are a side you respect fully.

"We are a side who has been playing good consistent cricket but we need to be right on our game because against Australia, nothing but the best will do."
