PIB training director Nasim passes away

Rafiqul Islam Khondker Nasim, training director of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), died of kidney failure at his Rayer Bazar home last night. He was 52.

Nasim had been suffering from kidney complications and taking regular dialysis for the last five years, family sources said.

Returning home last night after having dialysis at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, he fell gravely sick and died at around 9:30pm.

He left behind his wife, only daughter and a host of friends and admirers to mourn his death.

Born in 1952 in Comilla, Nasim did his Master's in mass communications and journalism from Dhaka University and joined the now-defunct daily Dainik Bangla in 1969. During his service life, he received higher education on international relations in Germany and the Netherlands.

Nasim joined the PIB as a trainer in 1989.

On April 8 last, the PIB authorities terminated his service on ground of ill health, but he challenged and had been contesting the discharge.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held in Sikder School and College ground at Rayer Bazar at 10:00am today.

The body afterwards will be kept at the Jatiya Press Club from 11:00am to 12:00noon and will later be laid to rest at the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Mirpur.
