CU goes jittery after bomb threat

Panic gripped teachers, students and officials of Chittagong University (CU) following a bomb threat yesterday.

Campus sources said an anonymous caller identifying himself as a member of Mujaheedin militant group informed the authorities that a number of powerful bombs were planted on the campus.

The threat prompted most of the CU teachers, students and employees leave their respective classes and office rooms hurriedly. The threat, however, proved untrue.

"An anonymous caller phoned me at around 10:30am. He warned me that some bombs were planted at different faculties of the university and those will go off in

8 to 10 minutes," said Md Harunur Rashid, deputy registrar of the university.

A police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Hasib Aziz searched all faculty buildings with metal detector but found nothing.
