Police bar Litu's family from holding press conference

Family members of Asaduzzaman Litu, who was killed in a gunfight, could not hold press conference as police prevented them from coming out of their residence yesterday morning.

Litu's wife and younger brothers were due to hold the press conference at the Press Club on his death and reportedly to disclose the names of politicians and policemen who were his beneficiaries.

A contingent of armed police cordoned off the residence of Litu at West Bania Khamar while his wife and brothers were about to set out for the Press Club at 10.00am yesterday. Litu's younger brother Moniruzzamn Elu called the press conference.

Family sources said, the intelligence agency personnel were keeping watch on Litu's younger brothers so that they cannot hold any rally and procession in this connection.

"We have decided to disclose the names of the beneficiaries who encouraged Litu to commit crimes," said his younger brother.

Litu, a chargesheeted accused in journalist Shamsur Rahman murder case, was killed in a gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and district police at about 3.30am on August 30 in Sonadanga thana of the city.
