Of children

I went through the article "What we teach our kids" by Hana Shams Ahmed published in SWM on August 27. Hana has brought a true assessment before us. I should say Hana spotted a great default in guideline for our innocent children. We, the guardians, are responsible for this unfortunate phenomenon. We cannot afford to remain deaf to this issue on any excuse. A child's mind will take whatever impression we make on it. It depends on a guardian's philosophy of life. A child might look at the surroundings with a great deal of curiosity. Children also ask for many things from their parents. But the parents should avoid doing anything that might create an impression that their children will get whatever they ask for. The children should be taught how to treat others. It is important that they grow up as compassionate human beings, having sympathy for others. We should teach our children about some basic values such as dignity of labour and respect for seniors. We should help them develop a positive view of life.
