A barbaric attack

I was filled with great consternation when I heard the news of the grenade attack on opposition leader Sheikh Hasina's meeting at Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August, which left at least 16 people dead and more than 300 injured, including AL frontline leaders.

Fortunately Sk. Hasina, who was the apparent target of the attack, escaped unhurt as AL activists formed a human shield to protect their leaders. But the party lost Ivy Rahman, a prominent leader.

This was a heinous act. If the government fails to arrest the culprits again, it will be doing a great disservice to the cause of justice and fair play.
