"Rakta Karobi"

On the 63rd death anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore, I had the privilege to enjoy his unique drama Rakta Karobi performed by Nagorik Natya Sampradaya at the Mahila Samity auditorium. The huge gathering of spectators showed how much they were excited about the drama. All the tickets were sold out one hour before the show began and many people were disappointed as they did not get ticket. The authorities had to arrange extra seats to accommodate the large crowd. This enthusiasm among viewers is an indication of the drama still having its evergreen appeal.

Superb stage performance of Api Karim, Khaled Khan, Shamim Shahid, Shirin Bakul, Ataur Rahman and others illustrated the main theme of the drama perfectly. Tagore's songs rendered by Api Karim and Khaled Khan were also impressive. Background music setting and stage decoration were heart touching. I would like to thank Ataur Rahman for his masterly direction. It was a marvellous effort!

The inner significance of the drama is quite applicable in today's perspective also . Loss of moral values and patience has changed the world for the worse. The powerful still dominate the world. The rich become richer, and the poor poorer due to exploitation.

I do appreciate Nagorik's initiative of helping the flood affected people from the ticket sale proceeds. When I was returning home after the show, it was raining torrentially . But I still felt happy !
