One killed, 45 hurt in Kushtia clashes
Drug peddler slaughtered


One person was killed and at least 45 people were injured in separate clashes in Kushtia and Chuadanga on Monday.

An alleged phelsidyl trader was slaughtered in another incident in Chuadanga.

one Anwar Hossain was killed on the spot and at least 30 people were injured in a clash between supporters of Sromojibi Mukti Andolon leader Abdul Latif Lattu and former chairman of Ujangram Union Parishad Badsha Hossain Sabu at Doperpara village in Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia. Lattu and Sabu are rivals for long over supremacy in the area.

Police and local people said the clash erupted when men of Sabu attacked one Shamim, supporter of Lattu, when he was returning home from Durbachara bazaar.

When the news spread, Lattu's supporters rushed to the spot with

lethal weapons and firearms and clashed for about an hour.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and

sent it to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.

Supporters of Lattu ransacked several houses and shops at Durbachara bazaar and in the villages, belonging to Sabu's supporters, sources said.

Of the injured, Montu 25, Sanwar Hosain 30, Monser Ali 35, Abdul Aziz 45, Mohammad Mallik 40, Kabil Uddin, Sashi, 20, Ratan Uddin 23, Saro, 22 and Basir Mollah, 36 were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital and other hospitals.

Sabu group lodged a complaint with Bashgram police outpost. A tense situation was prevailing in the area, police said.

In Chaudanga, alleged phensidyl trader Abul Hasem was slaughtered at Beydanathpur village in Jibonnagar upazila.

Police said he was called out of his house, taken to a nearby field and slaughtered.

Police sent the body to Chuadanga Sadar hospital for autopsy.

A case was filed with Jibinnagar police.

In another incident in the district, at least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups at Hapania village in Alamdanga upazila on Monday over a land dispute.

Police arrested leader of a group.

The groups were led by Nurul Amin and Haru Sheikh. Police arrested Nurul Amin.

Five of the injured were admitted to the local upazila health complex. A case was filed with Alamdanga police station.
