ADB President Chino to quit in January

Asian Development Bank President Tadao Chino of Japan announced Tuesday his resignation effective January 2005, the lender said in a statement.

He will have served six years on his departure, the ADB said, but did not give any reason for Chino's resignation nor who will replace him.

Meanwhile, Japan has nominated Haruhiko Kuroda, a former top international financial policymaker, to take over as ADB president in February next year.

Japan, as the top joint subscriber with the United States, usually names the president who normally serves for a five year term.
