Rehab to host 1st overseas housing fair in NY
29 local developers to participate in Aug 19-23 event


Hoping to rope in potential customers from non-rmsident Bangladeshis living in the US, local developers will showcase their prod}cts in a five-day housing fair in New York beginning from August 19.

A total of 29 real estate companies will participate in the fair organised by the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (Rehab) in cooperation with Biponon, a US-based event-management company.

The first-ever ovezseas housing fair will open scope for expatriates to choose apartments or plots directly from participating companies, said Rehab President Toufiq M Seraj at a press conference yesterday at the Jatiya Press Club.

"The fair will give a clear idea to expatriate Bangladeshis about the housing sector of Bangladesh," Seraj said. It will also enable the developers to earn confidence of the expatriates as well as to improve quality of their products, he added.

Besides, the fair will attract foreign investment in the real estate sector and help in technology transfer, the Rehab president said, adding that such technology and innovative designs may also help in bringing down cost of the apartments.

Speaking at the press conference Mahmudul Hasan, general secretary of Rehab, said the fair will help in bringing more remittance from the US.

He said a shuttle-van has been arranged to help the expatriates travel from Queens, an area where large number of non-resident Bangladeshis reside, to the fair venue -- Quality Hotel Hempstead in New York.

On the first two days, the fair will remain open to public from 2pm to 9pm while the third and fourth days the visitors will be allowed from 11am to 9pm. The fair will be concluded on August 23 with open discussion and cultural programme.

The organisers also plan to arrange seminars during the exhibition.

Among others, Md Abdul Awal, senior vice-president of Rehab, and Tanveerul Haque Probal, joint secretary, were present at the press conference.
