EC delegation chief visits flood-hit Sirajganj today

Ambassador Esko Kentrschynskyj, head of the delegation of European Commission (EC) to Bangladesh, will visit the flood-hit areas in Sirajganj today.

During his visit, Esko Kentrschynskyj will be accompanied by AR Maryon, head of International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Dhaka, and ZA Khan, chairman of Bangladesh Red Cross and Red Crescent Society.

It is a familiarisation visit to the areas where the IFRC has been conducting relief operation, says a press release.

The European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office (Echo) is providing 1.35 million euro in response to IFRC's total appeal of $2.8 million for relief and rehabilitation work for the flood victims in Bangladesh.

Echo support will allow an integrated approach focusing on immediate relief (distribution of food, non-food relief items, medicines, provisions of Oral Rehydration salt and sanitation facilities) but with a rehabilitation component, including food security.
