The Brahmaputra's tale
A river's story
Elita Karim
One of the greatest rivers on earth, the Brahmaputra, rises in Western Tibet and travels across three countries, namely China, India and Bangladesh. The documentary, titled A River's Story: The Quest for the Brahmaputra emphasises on Brahmaputra's power and the momentum with which it sweeps towards the Bay of Bengal. From infancy in Tibet to the final lap of its journey, the Bay of Bengal, the Brahmaputra is surrounded and sustained by greatness. Internationally acclaimed director Jahnu Barua from Assam treats the river as its main character, as the creator, sustainer and a natural life force supporting the people and ecosystems, which flourish on the banks of the river. The 54-minute documentary, screened recently at Hotel Sarina, Banani, has been produced and conceived by the award winning journalist and author of Bhopal, Lessons of a Tragedy, Sanjoy Hazarika. He also made a presentation of the documentary and responded to the queries after the screening for the benefit of the spectators, visitors and journalists.
