Launching ceremony of Tommy Miah's Institution of Hospitality Management.

Internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi chef Tommy Miah has become a byword for popularising Bangladeshi food in the West. Now to generate a following for his unique blend of cuisine, he has established an institution-- 'Tommy Miah's Institution of Hospitality Management' at Khilji Road, Mohammadpur. The State Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mir Mohammad Nasriuddin inaugurated the institution on August 2, at the institute compound.

In the launching ceremony, Nasriuddin said, 'We have been visualising an institute of this kind for years. We will work together with Tommy Miah's institute to create talented chefs. We will also help these chefs to find better jobs both at home as well as abroad.'

Nasiruddin further added that to get practical working experience, trainee chefs of Tommy Miah's Institute of Hospitality Management will be allowed to work in Hotel Sheraton and Sonargaon.

Explaining the raison d'etre behind the institute, Tommy Miah said, 'The owners of the maximum Indian restaurants in England are Bangladeshis, However, the chefs who work over there are basically Indian. That is why I thought of establishing an institute in Bangladesh to create international standard chefs.'

'In the institute the trainee chefs will be trained by the experts. I am the director of this institute. I will monitor the training,' said Tommy.

He further added, 'In this institute, we will arrange a competition of the chefs. And the winner of the competition will take part in another competition in England-'Indian Chef of the Year Competition' which I have been arranging there for the last few years. In this way I will turn the spotlight on Bangladeshi chefs in the international arena."
