Woman held for filing false kidnap case

Police yesterday arrested a woman claiming she had filed a 'false' abduction case against a family after hiding her daughter at a relative's house at Shewrapara in the capital.

Nasima Akhter, a resident of Rainkhola in Mirpur, filed the case against six members of a family -- Oli, Reza, Shipon, Raju, Sumon and Oli's mother -- yesterday afternoon for 'abducting' her 12-year-old daughter Jannatul Ferdous, a student of class six at a local school.

In the case filed with Mirpur Police Station, Nasima alleged the six people kidnapped her daughter on her way to a coaching centre on Saturday as she had demanded from the family Tk 80,000 it had borrowed from her husband.

But police said investigation showed the family borrowed no money from Nasima's husband.

"We then started quizzing Nasima and at one stage, she said she had kept her daughter at her sister's house at Shewrapara. The girl was found there," a police official said seeking not to be named.

Police are also looking for Nasima's husband.
