BSF digs bunkers on border as talks start in Comilla

The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) has been put on high alert at Chowgacha frontier under Sharsha upazilla of Jessore district while BDR and BSF are holding border talks in Comilla.

The move with effect from Sunday morning has been made in response to bunkers dug by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Naudapara frontier of Ashuinpukur village of India, which stands only two kilometres off Chowgacha frontier.

Meanwhile, people who live near Chowgacha frontier were fleeing in panic to safer places following digging of two bunkers.

Sources said BSF for the first time has dug any bunker on the plain land of Indian border, right on the opposite side of Chowgacha frontier.

Lieutenant Colonel Azizur Rahman, commanding officer of 25 Rifles Battalion, asked the locals not to panic. He said BDR has put its jawans on high alert to avert any untoward incident.

UNB adds: Bangladesh and India yesterday began a four-day border conference to sort out various issues like curbing cross-border crime, smuggling, drugs and arms trafficking, resisting intrusion and so on.

Deputy Director General of BDR Brigadier General M Ibrahim Khalil is leading a nine-member host side and Inspector General of BSF Alexander Daniel IPS an Indian delegation of 12 at the talks at the BDR sector headquarters in Comilla.
