Police arrested a PBCP cadre and the prime suspect in Janmabhumi editor Humayun Kabir Balu murder case from a tea stall in Motijheel in the capital Saturday midnight.A team of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Motijheel Police Station in a combined drive arrested Khorha Liton, 30, armed cadre of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party's (PBCP) Janajuddha faction. IO (investigation officer) Inspector Mohiuddin Ahmed said the arrestee admitted during interrogation at the police station that he is Khorha (lame) Liton and was involved in the murder of Balu on June 27. The IO said Liton hurled a powerful bomb at Balu in front of his office. Lalon Shaikh, another outlaw who was arrested Wednesday from Satkhira Road in Daulatpur in Khulna, gave Liton's name and whereabouts, he added. Liton, a professional bomb maker, is accused of several criminal charges including those for murders, police said. He was brought to Khulna yesterday. Deputy Commissioner (South) Akbar Ali said the arrest of Liton is a major breakthrough in the probe into Balu murder case, as now the arrestee is likely to admit who had hired him for the killing.
