JCD leader shot dead at Dhanmondi

Unknown assailants gunned down the general secretary of Dhanmondi unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student front of key ruling party BNP, near Dhanmondi Lake last night in an apparent internal conflict.

Sultan Ahmed Khan, 28, was talking to four youths by the lake in front of Dhaka Shishu Nabojatak General Hospital on Road No. 2/A at around 11:00pm when the incident took place.

Locals said Sultan picked up a heated argument with the youths at one point of their conversation and someone shot him twice, rocking the whole area.

Sultan died instantly taking two bullets in the head.

His body was lying in a pool of blood for over half an hour before a local resident, Yasin, took it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital declared Sultan dead on arrival at 12:10am.

Karimunnesa, mother of the victim, alleged two JCD activists called him out of their house before killing him in a sequel to a political conflict.
