AL hartal belies its own proposal, says Mannan

BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan yesterday said Awami League's (AL) countrywide shutdown came on the heels of their proposal for banning hartal in the country.

"If you are sincere, let us sit together for a dialogue and reach a consensus to stop hartal," he called upon the AL while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at 'Samabaya Sadan' (cooperatives building).

Organised in observance of the International Cooperatives Day, the function was Chaired over by National Cooperatives Union President Abdul Ali Mridah.

Bhuiyan said hartal has now no appeal and such shutdowns also do not reflect people's opinion. Besides, he said, instead of party workers, hired men are engaged in picketing in favour of hartal.

The BNP secretary general said: "We can build a happy and prosperous country if we reach a consensus to stop hartal in the country.
