Home truths

It is good that the US Ambassador, Herry K Thomas, finally sensed the issue of the rise of extremists under the banner of Islam in Bangladesh, the people who scandalise religion and make divisions and confusions among the Muslims. Bangla Bhai had not been arrested despite Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's orders. How was it possible in a democratic country? Where is the circuit connection at the end of the cord? When the opposition leader complains about something, the BNP-Jamaat government simply castigates her. Now how could the government oppose the US ambassador's contention? Will they be able to counter him by the way they habitually reply to the opposition leader? The motive of Islamic fanatics, mostly war criminals of 1971, and their newly born descendents most of whom come from madrasahs, is crystal clear to any wise man. Society will have to pay a high price if we fail to stop them right now.

It would be a big mistake to dismiss the ambassador's contention lightly.
