JCD activist to die for killing BCL man in Meherpur

A court here yesterday sentenced an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) to death and eight people to life term imprisonment for killing a Bangladesh Chhattra League (BCL) worker in 1997.The condemned killer was identified as JCD activist Mintu. The lifers -- Mehedi Hasan, Mithu, Asadul, Hira, Boga alias Zia, Yunus, Babu and Prodip - were also fined Tk 1,000 each, in default, to suffer three months more rigorous imprisonment (RI). According to the prosecution, Mintu aided by the other convicts stabbed BCL activist Amjad to death in broad daylight in Newpara area of the town on June 9 in 1997.
