New tea gardens in Panchagarh, CHT planned


Government has taken up steps to develop several new tea gardens at Panchagarh and Hill Tracts to meet internal demand of tea and increase its export.

Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury said this while addressing a two-day seminar on "Social impact of tea plantation in Asia"" at a city hotel yesterday.

The government is trying to develop tea gardens and improve the living standard of tea workers, he said.

Commerce Secretary Aminur Rahman, Labour and Employment Secretary Ali Imam Majumder, Chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board SAHM Tauhid, ILO Director in Dhaka Gopal Bhattacharya, among others, were present.
