Shahriar set to start training

Opening batsman Shahriar Hossain is expected to start training next week after a month-long lay off due to injury.

The national cricketer said yesterday that he has been feeling no pain in his back and test results showed no signs of a fracture.

Shahriar, who was sent home from the West Indies midway through Bangladesh's tour, will join the high performance training unit at BKSP, Savar.

Hannan Sarkar, another opener who was discarded from the Asia Cup squad for poor form, hoped to return to the national fold before the next series.

He said that spending one week at the high performance unit has helped him overcome the problems in his technique.

Back from BKSP for the weekend, Hannan claimed that his timing has improved and he enjoyed batting practice with the bowling machine.

Observers, however, think that with no local competitions before the Tigers' next assignment -- the ICC Champions Trophy in England -- it is highly unlikely that he will get a chance to impress the selectors.
