Kararchar book finals berth

Kararchar Krira Chakra of Narshingdi became the first team to reach the finals of the fourth Nitol-Tata National Football League when they shrugged off a challenge from Jamalpur's Kacharipara Football Club in yesterday's zonal final.

Visiting Kacharipara held the hosts to a goalless draw in regulation 90 minutes at the Narshingdi Stadium to take the match into a tiebreaker.

And Kararchar won the shootout 3-2.

Ripon, Shoaib and Azim converted their chances for the home side while Shahidul and Anwar scored from the spot for the Jamalpur outfit.

Kararchar earlier knocked out Mymensingh Abahani in tiebreaker and beat Surjo Tarun Club of Tangail 3-1.

Kacharipara striker Jalaluddin ended as the top scorer of the Narshingdi zone qualifiers with four goals.

Meanwhile, the services zone final between Bangladesh Police and Bangladesh Air Force could not be held at the Kamlapur Stadium due to lack of adequate security.

Away at Natore, two second-half strikes by Rony inspired Naogaon Prabaha Sangha's remarkable comeback in a five-goal thriller against Football Khelwar Kalyan Samity of Dinajpur at the Adhunik Stadium.

Rony scored in the 54th and 75th minute as the Naogaon league champions overcame a 2-0 first-half deficit to win 3-2. Golap slammed the match winner eight minutes from time.

Prabaha will take on Panchagarh Brothers Union in tomorrow's zonal final.

Today's matches: Chandpur Najirpara KC v Cox's Bazar Brothers Union at Chandpur; Bagerhat Unmochon Club v Khulna Mohammedan at Bagerhat; Jhenaidah Mohammedan v Chuadanga Mohammedan at Jhenaidah; Bangladesh Police v Bangladesh Air Force at Kamlapur Stadium.
