Hotel manager, bus driver shot dead in city

Alleged extortionists last night gunned down a hotel manager in the city's Bijoynagar area, about an hour after unknown goons shot dead a bus driver at Kalyanpur. Sanwar Hossain Sanu, 43, manager of Hotel Gold Star, was in his room, when a gang of five to six crooks came there at 10:45pm and demanded an unspecified amount of toll. As Sanu refused, they pumped a bullet into his chest. A hotel employee took Sanu to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where on arrival doctors declared him dead. At Kalyanpur, bus driver Nabin Hossain Mia, 25, and his friend Yunus, 24, were sitting near Nabin's house at 9:30pm, when two unidentified youths opened fire on them. Nabin received three bullets in the head and one in the right arm, while Yunus one in the back and one in the left arm. Nabin's father Ahmed Ali rushed them to the DMCH where doctors confirmed Nabin's death.
